Central 301 Engineering Students Experience the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS)

IMTS 2024

The International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS), the largest and longest-running manufacturing technology trade show in the United States, was held September 9–14, at McCormick Place in Chicago. This biennial event is a premier opportunity for industry leaders to explore cutting-edge innovations, engage in professional networking, and participate in a variety of educational workshops.

This year, Central 301(Central High School, Burlington, IL) engineering students had the unique opportunity to attend the Student Summit at IMTS. Thanks to a collaborative effort with the Greater Chicago Advanced Manufacturing Partnership (GCAMP), Region 110 secured VIP access for the students, offering them an exclusive glimpse into the world of advanced manufacturing technology.

The students were thrilled to engage directly with state-of-the-art machining and milling units, as well as advanced robotics. Among the standout experiences were interactions with top industry leaders and technologies from companies like Fanuc America, Universal Robots, HAAS Automation, and Mazak Corporation. These interactions provided invaluable hands-on learning opportunities and showcased the latest advancements in manufacturing technology.

One student shared, “The technology and demo’s shown is amazing. There’s so much to see, and a lot to learn from. Sometimes some representatives would come over and try to talk to us and explain what their product did. It was mind blowing about how much tech was available and shown. We were only on one floor of three and in one building out of four. There was so much, I really loved seeing all the different companies and tech.”

Another student shared, “I think the most eye-opening part of the show was just seeing all the different companies and what they had to offer. One of the companies I got to talk to one on one with shared all the businesses that use their manufacturing and it was hard to stump them or come up with a business that didn't use their robotics.”

Additionally, students enjoyed collecting swag and visiting with representatives of the amazing companies that participated in International Manufacturing Trade Show!

Overall, the IMTS experience was a highlight for Central 301 students, enriching their understanding of the manufacturing sector and inspiring future career aspirations in this dynamic field.
