Manufacturing Saves Lives

Manufacturers have stepped-up to the recent challenges here and abroad. GCAMP is proud to work with this amazing industry. If people are the fabric of our lives, then manufacturing is the thread that pulls us all together. Manufacturing saves lives. We say this, because it is seen in the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), the respirators, the ventilators, and parts that manufacturers are producing currently at an incredible pace.

Many companies are re-tooling to reduce the critical shortage needs in a time of crisis. Many have pulled together working from home, on the shop floors, or in their corporate offices—finding ways to support those on the front line. We thank you for all you do today and every day. Manufacturers Are Leading By Example

Think about the message we are sending to students who are considering a career in manufacturing. This generation wants to help change the world and our manufacturers are showing them how it’s done. The educators that spend time teaching these students are watching also.

During this COVID crisis, teachers have rallied to a challenging task: how to virtually teach hands-on manufacturing. It’s not as easy as flipping a switch and meaningful learning is a challenge when you are hunkered down at home with your family. Many of our local educators, with some student assistance (when possible), have watched manufacturers step in to help and followed the lead to design and manufacture PPE for local front-line workers.

Teachers Are Helping Where They Can

Teachers educating students with impressive real-life lessons about the importance of manufacturing. Local High School District 211 has been producing face shields and face masks for local distribution. Using 3D printers to manufacture reusable N95 style face masks with filters for a local nursing home, Conant High School Applied Tech department head Eric LeBlanc says that resources to make them are becoming scarce and hard to find.

Collaboration Makes It Possible

Purchasing an additional thirty-two 3D printers, and in collaboration with Harper College, local Career Tech manufacturing and engineering teachers from High School District 214 are currently in production of approximately 10,000 face shields to distribute to local first line responders in the Northwest Chicago Suburbs. A large-scale operation like this would be impossible without the close collaboration and partnership these teachers share within the district and the mentorship between each school. Students were involved with some design concepts and are eager to assist.
